Around 300 autistic children and
their family members turned up for a Family Day outing at the Jerudong
Park and Country Club Playground yesterday afternoon.
The event, which was third of its
kind this year, was organised by Society for the Management of Autism
Related Issues In Training, Education and Resources, Brunei Darussalam
(SMARTER Brunei).
The highlight of the family day was a
$2,000 donation contributed by KFC Brunei to SMARTER Brunei.
On hand to present the mock cheque
was Mr Johnny Lim, the Manager of KFC and receiving on behalf of
SMARTER Brunei was Malai Haji Abdullah bin Haji Malai Othman, the
President of SMARTER Brunei.
In addition to the contribution from
KFC, donations of $300 and $200 were also given by Zul Sukarla Law
Office and DHY Jurukur respectively.
The event was aimed to help autistic
children to develop their IQ, emotion and social behaviour. The Family
Day also served to help the special children to make new friends by
taking part in the games and contests.
Participating parents also had the
opportunity to relate some of their children stories with other
parents and help each other through the difficult time.
