Dusun Tribal Culture Comes Under
Study In Tutong
Tutong
– The Dusun tribe is one of the country's seven indigenous
races and a study is being conducted to learn more about their origins
and traditions.
Based on archaeological study, the
first settlements of Dusun tribal people were mostly in the mid
district of Tutong specifically in Kampong Telamba, Telisai.
A further study was conducted
recently on the history on the Dusun tribes, its origins, villages,
customs, beliefs, dialect and language and its socio-economic
development as well as their past life experience especially during
the Japanese occupation and Brunei rebellion in 1962.
The study was conducted during the
Genealogy Village of Dusun Race that ended on Thursday at the Tasek
Marimbun Heritage Site in Tutong District.
Awang
Hj Abdul Karim an officer of the History Centre, as the coordinator of
the gathering, said the Tasik Merimbun was specially chosen for the
gathering as it was regarded as the centre of Dusun tribes in the
district.
Awang
Shahrul Anaz Hj Ismail, a participant representing faculty of social
science and society, Universiti Brunei Darussalam said during the
gathering the collected many interesting information and history of
the tribe.
The findings could be used as
reference of future study or other researchers.
In the area of culture, the Dusun
community is rich in traditions they inherited from their ancestors.
This traditional culture is among
their heritage which has become the symbol of their identity.
In all more, than 40 historical sites
around Mukim Ukong, Rambai, Tanjong Maya, Lamunin and Kuidang have
been identified during the gathering.
However, , Hj Mohammad bin Salim a
History Curator said they were unable to visit all the sites as some
areas a located deep in the jungle.
