Keep An Eye On Your Kids, Says
Minister
By Lyna Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Parents and guardians play an important role in
shaping the lives of children. They must keep an eye on children's
outdoor activities and monitor their behaviour, Deputy Minister Pehin
Dato Paduka Awg Hj Adanan observed, to prevent crime from childhood.
The deputy minister made these
observations in a speech to launch the Crime Prevention Exhibition at
the Mall, yesterday.
Observing and knowing one's
children's indoor or outdoor activities are equally important as
emphasising religious teachings to encourage good values and to
provide good examples to them, the deputy minister said.
Preventive steps and measures must be
taken from childhood, before the children get influenced by immoral
activities, he said.
Developing a caring and happy family
can also greatly help as a precautionary and prevention measure to
beat crime, he observed.
The Crime Prevention Exhibition which
was officially opened yesterday, was in line with the countless
efforts made by the Government of His Majesty to eradicate negative
elements that could threaten the peace and prosperity of the
sultanate, the Deputy Minister said.
Pehin
Dato Paduka Awg Hj Adanan further said that His Majesty's government
is also involved in extending cooperation at regional level as well as
at international level such as at Asean meetings in an effort to
combat any form of crime including transnational crime, drug abuse,
money laundering, human trafficking and others.
This was also a golden opportunity
for the general community to interact with the Royal Brunei Police
Force (RBPF) to gather information and facts in the types and form of
criminal activities in the country, he said.
It also served as a platform to find
and identify effective methods to combat criminal activities in line
with the theme "Combating Crime with the Community," he said adding
that the effectiveness of prevention or combating crime committed such
as theft, rape, domestic abuse, youth and errant students,
deviationist activities, spreading subversive propaganda, immigration
offenders depends on the awareness, cooperation and strong support
from all levels of the community.
Maintaining peace of the country is
everybody's responsibility and it would be possible for Brunei to
continue with the development to lead the country towards excellence.
The deputy minister also highlighted
an excerpt from one of His Majesty's titahs where it was said peace
and prosperity are two most important things to keep in mind for a
country's development. --
