Police Officer Says `Not Guilty'

Begawan - A police officer pleaded not guilty to using criminal
force on a local woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Assistant Superintendent of Police,
Ariffin Hj Jafarudin, 41, who was represented by Mr Hj Zul-Sukarla
from Zul-Sukarla Law Office, was released on $5,000 court bail or 2
local sureties pending his plea of not guilty.
Trial was fixed for December 1 to 4
later this year at 9am.

Suhana binti Haji Sudin, Deputy Public Prosecutor, said six witnesses
would be called by the prosecution while three witnesses will appear
for the defence counsel.
The defendant was charged with using
criminal force on one Miss X, aged 26, intending to outrage the
modesty of the woman by placing his left hand on her right thigh and
stroking it.
This is an offence punishable under
section 354 of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment of a
maximum 5 years and whipping. --
