Students of Menglait Secondary School
were encouraged to adopt a healthier lifestyle through the launching
of the school's healthy lifestyle programme yesterday morning.
Awang
Haji Sumadi bin Sukaimi, Director of Language and Literature Bureau,
as the guest of honour at the launching ceremony, officially signed
the plaque to mark the launching of the programme.
In his opening speech, he
congratulated the school for their brilliant effort during the recent
National Day celebrations as well as the last Sea Games, adding that
he hoped the programme will not only be implemented this year, but in
the coming years as well.
He urged students not to smoke or
take drugs as the side effects from these bad influences would affect
them for years to come.
In a separate speech, the school
principal, Pg Hj Zahari bin Pg Ahmad, outlined the objectives of the
health promotion, which were in line with the Ministry of Education's
ambition to promote healthy living and to set up health programmes
that cover various aspects of mental, physical, emotional and
spiritual health.
After the launch, there was a drama
performance by the students and a talk about the dangers of smoking by
Dr Haji Rozaimi bin Haji Tengah from the Ministry of Health. The guest
of honour also planted a mango tree in conjunction with the launch.
There was a healthy cooking
demonstration and a bazaar selling healthy food with 30 per cent of
the proceeds going to a charitable organisation. Students also did
their part by donating blood to RIPAS, while the Road Safety Council
of Brunei set up an exhibition booth at the school.
