Brunei Can Be A Successful And Dynamic Zikir Nation

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei has the potential to become a successful, dynamic, prosperous and peaceful Zikir Nation based on the protection placed on its religion, mind, life, people and wealth.

This was one of the 11 resolutions made at the Knowledge Convention's two-day seminar, which drew to a close yesterday. The people of Brunei are obliged to be loyal in supporting efforts by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in making the Sultanate a Zikir Nation, as a country always associated with Ar-Rahman.

Zikir nation means remembering and citing Allah (SWT), with the aim of obeying Allah the Almighty's instructions and prohibitions, being thankful and with no blasphemy of God, supported by faith and piety as the main condition to gain Allah's grace in everlasting prosperity, peace, tranquility and well-being.

Another resolution from the educational perspective was the existence of Brunei as a Zikir nation, which can be realised by constant effort and continuous improvement to stabilise the education system.

Close cooperation between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Education can produce a zikir gen eration that is religious and globalised.

"Together with the establishment of religious institutions at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, these institutions and the close cooperation act as a core towards generating a Zikir Nation," according to the resolutions statement.

The statement adds that it is also important for families to understand their responsibilities as families are vital towards the creation of a Zikir Nation and society. Youths who are strong and established represent human resources that are most valuable and important as the country moves toward developing a Zikir Nation. Government ministries, agencies and non-governmental organisations were urged to be proactive so as to guide the youths in the right path.

“A Zikir Nation requires individuals who possess a strong spirit and are committed, ones who are knowledgeable, mature, team players, faithful to ulil amri(leader), and who practise noble values.”

The resolutions also emphasise that the practice of zikir should not be seen as a separate entity from one's daily routine, and should not only be practised by certain people, at a certain place and at a certain time.

Brunei must continuously practise zikir in its defence, economy and social system to remain a peaceful and prosperous nation. Themed ‘Towards realising a Zikir Nation’, the Knowledge Convention's seminar was held at the International Convention Centre.

The seminar saw 10 speakers from Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia on topics relating to becoming a Zikir Nation, and revolved around the significance of education, the family institution, youths, leaders in creating a Zikir Nation.  -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
