By Ben Ng
Kuala Belait
- His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam yesterday consented to grace the Galeria Pusat Insani at
the Padang Bandaran of Kuala Belait during the get-together ceremony
with the local community in conjunction with the monarch's 62nd
birthday celebrations.
Upon arriving at the Galeria, His
Majesty along with his entourage examined the history of Seria town
from the 1960s to 2000. This was followed by the showcasing of the
proposed Pusat Insani as well as the proposed 24-lane bowling alley
and Cineplex.
Awang
Haji Zainal Abidin bin Haji Mohd Ali, Deputy Managing Director of
Brunei Shell Petroleum, co-chairman of the taskforce committee of
the construction of Pusat Insani, said that the project is a
community development project carried out by Brunei Shell Petroleum
with the cooperation from the relevant government departments in
Belait District.
"It will be built on an area
opposite to the existing Brunei Shell Petroleum social investment
landmark, the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) building, in the
.oil town of Seria," he said.
The community centre will serve as
the link that connects the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre, as well as
an entertainment centre that will feature a proposed 24-lane bowling
alley and Cineplex, and Seria town itself.
Hj Zainal Abidin said that this
project would add value to the quality of life for the people of
Brunei Darussalam, Belait residents in particular, and would become
another platform to host community events, which will foster
solidarity and goodwill among the people in Seria and Belait.
"This is in line with Brunei Shell
Petroleum's commitment to a progressive and sustainable community
development for Brunei Darussalarn," he said.
The centre will consist of a
spacious Main Hall, able to accommodate some 1,500 people in banquet
seating, a few function rooms, VVIP room, surau, café, gymnasium as
well as a two-storey Learning Unit equipped with Internet access.
According to Brunei Shell
Petroleum, Pusat Insani will become the hallmark of harmony between
the oil and gas industry and the local community.
An outdoor water park will also be
created at the central area, with the purpose to cool down the
daytime heat. This will no doubt provide the people in the
neighbourhood with a new attraction.
A monument of the "Golden Drop"
will also be placed at the centre of the park, signifying the 80
years that Brunei Shell has operated in Brunei Darussalam. -- Courtesy of Borneo
