Brunei Internet Chess Blitz

The 1st Brunei Internet Chess Blitz
was held on Tuesday at ICC whereby 418 elite online players vied for
the $6,500 prize fund.
First place went to IM Arthur
Gabrielyan (Dinamit) from Russia bringing home a hefty US$1,500
followed by GM Axel Bachmann (Olimpus) from Paraguay (US$1,000) and
Israeli GM Ilya Smirin (Tapuax) winning US$750.
The inaugural Brunei Internet Chess
Blitz was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 62nd birthday
celebrations.
It was also linked up with Brunei
Chess Centre at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in
Berakas and the Brunei Shell Recreational Club Chess Centre in Seria
for a special online B tournament for Brunei players.
The event was won by 19-year-old FM
Yee Soon Wei from BSRC Chess Centre with 8.5 points. He won a return
ticket to Singapore. Second was Muhd Aliuddin and won himself a
two-day/one night stay at the Empire Hotel and Country Club and
third place went to Dyg Siti Nur Fatimah Al-Zuhra.
Md
Iqbal Aqbari won the U-10 category followed by Jerry Goh and Muhd
Nabil Fadhillah.
In the U-12 category, the winner
was Dyg Siti Nur Fatanah Azrina followed by Muhd Ahsanuddien and
Azizul.
Muhd
Adib Syauqi was the U-14 winner and second was Ira Kartika Dewi.
Md
Nazim dominated the U-16 category while Awg Hj Md Zulkifli was the
winner in the Over-50 category.
Top five merit prizes went to See
Jun Wei, Paddy Koh, Fahmi , Md Syahmi and Iscramoun Bajau.
