Children Deserve Extensive
Healthcare

Begawan - Children deserve a quality and comprehensive
healthcare from when they are in their mothers' womb for they are
the nation's assets who will lead the future generation.
Speaking at the opening of the
Second National Community Health Nursing Workshop yesterday, Hjh
Hapsah Hj Manudin, the event's chairperson, stressed that the
Community Nursing Services' and Maternal and Child Health Services'
were responsible to ensure that mothers and children receive quality
services such as thorough immunisation treatment following the
provided guidelines.
She said Community Health Nurses
have an important role in imparting health knowledge on managing the
healthcare of a child and the family. The healthcare management
covers many facets which include mechanism of breast feeding,
healthy eating, clean environment, hygiene of both individual and
family.
"Efficient healthcare has an impact
towards enhancing the quality of children's healthcare," Hjh Hapsah
said.
Present to officiate the opening of
the workshop was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj
Suyoi Hj Osman, Minister of Health. An introductory talk was
presented by Dr Elizabeth Chong, who specialises in Pediatric and
Neonatology.
This was followed by the
presentation of certificate of appreciation and souvenirs by the
guest of honour.
Also present were several senior
officers from the ministry.
The workshop will be held from July
17 until August 2.8 at the Subok Basic Healthcare Training Centre.
As many as seven sessions have been arranged for some 231 nurses and
midwives from all the four districts.
From this 147 are from Maternal and
Child Health Clinic, 63 from Outpatient Department (OPD), 12 basic
healthcare nurses, seven pediatric nurses, three lecturers from the
local nursing college and 11 invited nurses and midwives from the
Royal Brunei Armed Forces Medical Services.
Each session will involve 33
participants.
Topics on Neonatal Jaundice,
Assessment of failure to thrive, Care of Newborn Babies at home will
be presented by doctors from Outpatient Services, Community
Pediatric Services and senior nurse from Community Nursing Services.
