Deputy Minister Visits New Ferry
Terminal In Serasa

Begawan - Deputy minister of Communications, Dato Paduka Hj
Yusof Hj Abd Hamid yesterday paid a working visit to the new
passenger ferry terminal in Serasa which is scheduled to begin
operations at the end of the year.
The purpose of the visit was to
monitor and ensure all projects for the improvement of public
facilities in the transportation sector are progressing as planned,
according to a public relation officer at the ministry.
The terminal is about 90 per cent
completed according to Acting Director of Ports, Hj Souyono Salamat.
"We are still waiting for the arrival of the pontoon which should be
here during the first week of August this year."
Besides that, the terminal's
driveway and parking lot have yet to be laid with tarmacs and the
building itself is not fully-furnished yet, said the Acting
Director.
The completion of the Serasa
Terminal with the pontoon is expected to be done by late August.
During, the working visit, Hj
Souyono disclosed that there are plans by the Tourism Board in
collaboration with the Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company to
install mega posters along the jetty showcasing places of interests
as well as the flora and fauna of Brunei.
In this regard, BSP is looking to
set up an information centre for tourists at the terminal, according
to the Acting Director.
Meanwhile, Hj Souyono assured
passengers that ferry ticket prices will not change with the opening
of the new terminal in which the construction costs over $4 million
and will have four lanes of immigration processing counters for both
departing and arriving passengers.
It was an investment to produce
"shorter, safer and faster processing of passengers", said Hj
Souyono.
The building is equipped with a
spacious departure and arrival area, as well as a holding lounge for
the comfort of passengers. The jetties and passenger embarkation and
disembarkation pontoons have been designed with enhanced comfort and
safety measures in mind.
Security measures have also been
enhanced for baggage and passenger security checks.
Officers from the Ministry of
Communication, Ministry of Development and Ministry of Industry and
