By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - The capital Bandar Seri Begawan has been spruced up in time to celebrate the 62nd birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Brunei Darussalam on July 15.

All roads leading to the capital are undergoing a transformation with decorations such as banners and neon lights being put up.

Congratulatory arches are being erected at various strategic places.

The roundabouts in Beribi and Kiulap have also been decorated with ornamental lights in preparation for the celebration next week.

Workers were seen giving a fresh coat of paint on fences along the streets of Jalan Tutong too.

Taman Haji Sir Muda OmarAli Saifuddien, the celebration's central venue on July 15, as well as places in and around the capital have also been decorated.

People from all walks of life have started to walk around the Taman at night to get a feel of the celebrations.

His Majesty's birthday celebration is eagerly awaited by not only the ordinary people, who are looking forward to the cultural and sport activities that will take place during the celebration.

Small traders such as hawkers and stall operators are also looking forward to the two-week celebration.

The traders can expect a good income as the Taman and the other celebration sites will be packed with locals and foreign visitors.

Just like last year, many interesting activities will be held, including performances by the public and private sector, students and non-governmental organisations. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
