Mukim Pengkalan Batu Hoists National Flag

Bandar Seri Begawan - A ceremony to hoist the national flag for Mukim Pengkalan Batu was held yesterday morning at the mukim's multi-purpose hall at Kg Parit Recreational Park to mark His Majesty's 62nd birthday celebration in their effort to pledge their loyalty to their beloved ruler.

Present as the guest of honour was Ustaz Awg Hj Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Hj Mohd Yusof, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Department cum the adviser of the Consultative Council of Kg Pengkalan Batu.

In his welcoming address, Awang Hj Tahir bin Hj Tarip, Penghulu of Mukim Pengkalan Batu said the flag-hoisting ceremony was a meaningful event for the villagers at the mukim and the population of the country in general.

He said the hoisting of the flag signified the loyalty of the people to their ruler in together celebrating the auspicious occasion of His Majesty's 62" birthday.

"It is also interpreted as the placement of the national flag in its rightful position that signifies the sovereignty of the nation.

"The event is also meant to inject the spirit of awareness to the villagers especially the younger generation in continuing to uphold the national philosophy of MIB.

"I urge the population of the mukim to fly their flags at their residence on the occasion of His Majesty's 62nd birthday. All flags must be brought down on July 31," he said.

After his speech, the national flag was presented to the chief guest by the leader of a group of villagers who excelled in sports. The flag was then hoisted to the tune of the national anthem.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
