By Za'im Zaini

Bandar Seri Begawan - Parent are these days more concerned about how well their children do in their math and science papers for the '0' Level exam, and less concerned about their children's understanding of ‘Fardu Ain’ (personal responsibility).

This observation was made by Pehin Dato Paduka Ustaz Hj Awg Yahya, a panel judge from the Syariah Court of Appeals, who delivered his working paper entitled "Pendidikan Agamam Dalam Membentuk Bangsa Berakidah" (Religious Education In Shaping A Nation With Akidah) during the Knowledge Convention Seminar at the ICC yesterday.

According to Pehin Ustaz Hj Awg Yahya, the two problems Faced in religious education specifically in schools in Brunei Darussalam are the curriculum and the public's view on religious education.

He also called for the establishment of a special institution that will be able to produce intelligentsia able to face worldly challenges.

"The people of Brunei Darussalam should not accept other sects because it can cause many problems that can throw off progress and harmony of religion," he said.
