Parents More Concerned About
Children's '0' Levels Than Religious Knowledge

Begawan - Parent are these days more concerned about how well
their children do in their math and science papers for the '0' Level
exam, and less concerned about their children's understanding of
‘Fardu Ain’ (personal responsibility).
This observation was made by Pehin
Dato Paduka Ustaz Hj Awg Yahya, a panel judge from the Syariah Court
of Appeals, who delivered his working paper entitled "Pendidikan
Agamam Dalam Membentuk Bangsa Berakidah" (Religious Education In
Shaping A Nation With Akidah) during the Knowledge Convention Seminar
at the ICC yesterday.
According to Pehin Ustaz Hj Awg
Yahya, the two problems Faced in religious education specifically in
schools in Brunei Darussalam are the curriculum and the public's
view on religious education.
He also called for the
establishment of a special institution that will be able to produce
intelligentsia able to face worldly challenges.
"The people of Brunei Darussalam
should not accept other sects because it can cause many problems
that can throw off progress and harmony of religion," he said.
Religious activities for mosque
youths and new converts should also he in line with the teachings of
relevant agencies from the Islamic Dakwah Centre and Mosque Affairs
