Bringing Education To The Children
By NAJ

Kuala Belait - Twenty years ago, the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) launched a mobile library service in the Belait District in its bid to promote a reading habit among children. Sungai Liang Primary School was the first to receive the service. Later Tumpuan Telisai and Danau Primary Schools in the Tutong District registered as members of the service.

In the early days, the bus was only available in the Brunei-Muara District-. However, in 1990, Belait acquired its own vehicle and six schools in rural areas were added onto the list of schools that received the service.

While there is an array of books available for the students, the Language and Literature Bureau emphasises on local publications in an effort to promote Bruneian writers.

It is also the agency's responsibility to provide access of the service to students in rural areas.

The mobile library has been servicing both government and private schools since its establishment.
