Enhancing English Learning

Kuala Belait - Twenty- Two students from 11 Belait primary schools joined an English storytelling puppet competition to enhance learning in a fun and creative way.

It was held for the third time in conjunction with the Reading Culture month. They also learned the art of puppet making and performance.

The competition was co-hosted by Sekolah Rendah Lumut and Sekolah Rendah Sungai Tali and attended by Belait District Senior Education Officer Hj Ramlee bin Abd Rahman as chief guest.

It tested the skills and creativity of teachers and students in designing the handmade puppets and puppet houses. It also promoted English learning through the delivery of folk tales and fables.

Two guest judges evaluated the competitors based on creativity, language fluency and intonation.

The first to third prize winners in the Kuala Belait/ Seria zone were Sekolah Rendah PSN Pg Md Yusof Lorong Tiga, Sekolah Rendah Ahmad Tajuddin and Sekolah Rendah Sungai Teraban.

In the distant zone category, the first to third place winners were Sekolah Rendah Sungai Liang, Sekolah Rendah Lumut and Sekolah Rendah Sungai Tali.

Each participant delivered stories in ten minutes through a puppet performance at Sekolah Rendah Sungai Tali in Kampong Lumut yesterday morning.

There were Merangking News Casting Idol, Scrabble game, Memory game, Crossword puzzle and specially created student activities. The Reading Culture for primary schools will end this month. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
