By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Poets from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Thailand,
Singapore and Indonesia are set for their recitals tonight at
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Bangi, Selangor at the closing
ceremony of a poetry workshop that has been held there since
yesterday.
An officer from the Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports remarked that local poet Mohd Zefri Arif
would not be participating as an official delegate from the Sultanate.
"His participation comes purely
coincidental as he is currently studying in Malaysia," he said.
Other poets include Tun Abdullah Dato
Mulia from Southern Thailand, Djamal Tukimin of Singapore and
Indonesia's Asep Sambodia.
Malaysia meanwhile is represented by
some established poets like DatukA. Samad Said, DrAhmad Razali, Dr
Siti Zainon Ismail, Imlan Abadi, Dr Ibrahim Ghafar and Marzuki Ali.
Also set to perform is a group from
Indonesia called Teater UI, who will dramatise a poem, entitled The
Land of Tears by the renowned Sutardji Calzoum Bachri.
Some 10 actors comprising
undergraduates from various faculties of Universitas Indonesia are
expected to perform.
Malaysian's Teater Rimba will present
a play based on a poem called Malam Puisi Nusantara 2005.
It depicts the current socio-economy
of Indonesia, where the population has been working hard towards
economic recovery after a recession that hit the region in 1997:
There will also be a showcase of
Indonesian arts and culture to build a rapport between the poets and
theatre activists from Asean member countries. --
