Birthday Festivities Begin
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Prospective stall operators as well as hawkers in the
capital are getting ready to begin their trade at celebration sites
this evening to earn extra income during the two-week celebration in
conjunction with His Majesty's 59th birthday celebrations.
Apart from them, dry food suppliers
as well as pop corn traders will start work early this morning so that
they could send their supplies to traders by afternoon.
"I have to start making popcorns at
about 4am in order to be in time to distribute them to hawkers by
afternoon so that they can start business in the evening," said a
popcorn supplier from Jerudong.
He and other traders are hoping for a
dry two-week celebration to ensure a steady stream of visitors at the
celebration sites in all the districts.
The celebration sites at the car park
area fronting the Royal Regalia and the open field of Sultan Omar Ali
Saifuddien College are set to hold a series of events.
Stages have been erected at the two
sites for entertainment and cultural performances.
Stalls catering food and drinks as
well as consumer goods such as clothes, textiles, house decorative
items and toys can also be found at the two places.
There will also be booths that sell
takeaway ready-made food and drinks while other stalls will be used by
mobile food trailers. Hawkers can also be found around the Taman Haji
Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital. --
