Month-Long Celebrations Kick Off

Begawan - Month-long celebrations to mark His Majesty the
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Datussalam's 59th birthday will
kick off today evening.
There will be many cultural
performances in the BruneiMuara district held at two separate
locations.
The performances will be held at the
parking area in front of the Royal Regalia Building and at the parking
area of the Sultan OmarAli Saifuddien College near Silver Jubilee
Park.
The first event will be held this
evening. Featuring stage performances by the Ministry of Education,
the "Persembahan Aneka Warna" will begin at approximately 8pm with a "Dendang
Satria".
There will be performances at both
the designated venues. The celebrations are a collaboration between
several sectors including ministries, government departments, private
sectors,, schools and NGOs in the country and will be held from now
till July 31.
The two venues will host the nightly
stage performances after Isyak prayers and will conclude before 12
midnight.
The performances will showcase
Brunei's rich arts and culture to visitors, both foreign and local.
In an interview on RTB's Rampai Pagi
yesterday, Haji Mohd Amin, Chairman of Arts and Cultural Performances
for the celebration in the Brunei-Muara district, said the festivities
are aimed to add merriment and entertain communities in the hopes it
would instil and enhance the loving spirit, loyalty and respect to the
monarch and the royal family.
The performances will also boost
interaction between local communities, spreading the spirit of
merriment in the country. This is also the perfect opportunity for
SMEs to boost their business at the nightly stalls, he added.
Mohd
Amin said the performances planned are very attractive, with the
highlight being the performance on July 31.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports will organise the "Juara Kugiran", which is expected to receive
a very warm response from youths in the country. This activity will
provide youths a useful way to spend their time while enabling the
ministry to scout for talented youths in the country.
Another performance to look out for
will be the "Citra Irama Melayu", which will showcase the local Malay
culture and stage performances by other ethnic communities.
Asean
communities will also showcase their culture with embassies and high
commissions in the country taking part to add colour to the
festivities.
The "Contemporary Culture Show" will
be held on July 19 from 8pm onwards at the stage in front of the Royal
Regalia Building. It is organised by Asean Window and DSK group.
The nightly stalls will also be open
for business beginning this evening until July 31 Also on the cards
will be a spectacular fireworks display at the compound of the Istana
Nurul Iman, organised by the Brunei-Muara district's Chinese
Community. --
