Big Brunei River Watch On Four Points
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei has mounted a big vigil at major entry points here to ensure all is well for the nation during these festive times.

More than 40 enforcement officers were stationed yesterday at four strategic locations along the Brunei River on the lookout for illegal activities.

Officials from the Marine Police, Customs, Immigration, Fisheries and the Forestry authorities were stationed at Tanjung Kindana Pulau Chermin, Sungai Bangau, Sg. Jaie Jaie and Putat Control Post.

These four points were targeted as they are gateways to Brunei for people such as fishermen arriving from the neighbouring Malaysian states and from the sea and those commuting via speedboat to and from Bangar town in Temburong.

Six boats including a high-powered boat were used in the joint operation, "Bersepadu 12" that started at around 7.30am and ended before noon.

In one case detected at Putat Control Post, a fisherman was found carrying out fishing activities without a permit. It was understood that he was ordered to apply for a permit within a week. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
