Move On Mood Spoilers In
Kampong Ayer
By M K Anwar & CT Hj Mahmod
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Kampong Ayer came under focus to fishout criminal
elements who may spoil the current festive mood.
In view of the celebration of His
Majesty's 59th birthday, the Royal Brunei Police Force and the
Immigration Enforcement Section and the Internal Security Department
on Thursday midnight conducted a massive joint operation in the
capital.
About 60 officers raided several
houses in Kg Sumbiling and Kg Sg Kedayan in Kampong Ayer as part of
the enforcement agencies efforts' to prevent any unwanted elements
from spoiling the festive mood.
As usual at this time of year, it was
feared that foreigners might take advantage of the night stalls for
the celebrations in the capital to find unauthorised part-time jobs.
Some foreigners enter Brunei using
social visit passes allowing them to stay in the country for a limited
period. But stall operators were reminded that it is illegal to employ
foreigners who have come into the country under a visit pass.
Many of the houses in Kg Sumbiling
and Kg Sg Kedayan were found being rented to foreigners by locals
taking advantage of the influx of foreigners into the capital.
A number of suspects even tried to
hide in vain from the raiding party in the ceiling of their rented
houses during the operation.
Thirteen foreigners were rounded up
for failing to produce travel documents, while three locals were
detained for suspected drug offences. --
