Bruneians Safe After London
Bombings
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Anxious parents whose children are studying in London
were grateful when their offspring called them up to say they were not
affected by the series of bombings that ripped through three
underground trains and a bus, killing more than 50 people.
A father said her daughter, a doctor
pursuing for a specialisation, called him up as soon as the London
bombing news broke out.
"My daughter phoned me up to say she
was not affected even though she had to walk nine miles from her
medical school, King's College in North London, to return to her
accommodation at the Brunei Hall in Norfolk Square, Central London.
"She had to walk home as the
underground trains and buses have been paralysed," he said.
The entire underground and bus
network had been suspended after the incidents in Edgware Road, King's
Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate
stations, most of which serve London's financial district.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had
told Radio Television Brunei (RTB) no Bruneians in London are known to
have been affected by the bomb blasts.
It was also lucky the bombings
happened when many Brunei students are back on holiday here.
However, there are some staying put
in London as they need to do industrial stints or wait for their
graduation day. --
