OCBC Islamic Bank In Brunei A Major Step Says Minister

Bandar Seri Begawan – The award of a full International Islamic banking license to Oversees Chinese Banking Cooperation (OCBC) defines a major step in Brunei’s financial services sector.

This was stated by Pehin Dato Awang Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Ibrahim, Minister of Finance II, said this at the opening of the OCBC Brunei Branch this morning. It was held at the banks premises at Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation complex at the capital.

The minister said that Brunei with its limited human resources has followed a dynamic approach in developing in-staff specialist financial skills and in applying them for the benefit of the country.

He also said the country’s accumulated knowledge of Islamic banking owes much to His Majesty the Sultan whose vision ensured its early adoption in Brunei and whose commitment has made certain its continuing development at both academic and practical levels.

He added that now it has been five years since the Brunei International Financial centre began operation and the move is bearing fruit. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
