Anduki Croc Tamed After 3-Hour
Battle
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - It was one croc that couldn't get away.
A young 2.95 metre long hungry
crocodile that had crept into a fish rearing pond in Anduki made quite
a splash before it was finally captured after a 3hour battle with 23
able-bodied men on Thursday evening.
After the alarm was raised by an
Indonesian worker who was fishing at the pond, eight firemen led by
Officer Pg Hj Rosli bin Pg Hj Ahmad of the Seria Fire Department as
well as 11 policemen from Royal Brunei Police Force Seria led by
Inspector Pg Hairol bin Pg. Anwar joined in to catch the elusive croc.
The Indonesian worker who says he had
seen many crocodiles lurking in the area had waited till the young
reptile entered the 30-metre long fish rearing pond before he raised
the alarm. First he had informed his superiors, who had in turn made
the emergency calls to fire services and police departments.
It had then taken them more than
three hours to get into the fishing area belonging to a fish farm
company first, in order to trap the crocodile.
The young crocodile will now be
handed over to the Bandar Seri Begawan Museums Department, it was
told.
A signboard had already been put up
at the entrance to the Lumut Anduki Recreational Park, warning the
public to beware of crocodiles and to exercise extra caution as there
had been croc sightings previously in the river. It further urged the
public not to swim in its river as well.
