Oil And Gas Employ More Skilled
Locals

Bandar Seri
Begawan – The number of Bruneians working in the oil and gas
sector is on the rise in line with the development in technology and
increased academic achievements by locals in the state.
As from 1984 to July this year, 3,004
Bruneians were employed by the four-joint companies namely the BSP,
BLNG, BST and BSM compared to around 1,900 just 20 years ago.
BSP
alone engaged 2348 locals, while 414 worked with BLNG and another 64
with BSM.
Meanwhile Brunei Shell Tankers (BST)
that was formed in 1989 offered jobs to a total of 178 Bruneians.
At the same time, the number of
expatriates in the four companies declined from about 1,100 in 1984 to
370 this year.
This showed an encouraging
development in the aspect of Bruneianisation policy that focused on
upgrading locals to gain skills and knowledge especially in the
technical field. --
