Baiduri Bests Others In Battle Of
The Bankers

Begawan - Baiduri Bank shuttlers came out top in the `battle of
the bankers' when they beat HSBC 12-5 in the QAF Corporate Badminton
League at the IBB Building on Wednesday night.
With banking business aside, Baiduri
Bank took command of the game by winning the first match of the men
singles through Kok Shen defeating Hj Asmalee 15-8, 15-7. But HSBC
levelled the scorey when Amalludin outclassed Kher Wee 15-4,15-13 in
the second match.
Baiduri
Bank sixth in the league, were able to regain the lead when the ladies
took charge winning both the singles matches. Winnie Nyau whipped
Elizabeth 11-1, 11-1 and Catherine Chin outclassed Siti Salmiah 11-2,
11-5.
The fine form continued into the
men's doubles where Baiduri Bank won four out of five games to
increase their lead to 7-1.
Kok
Shen/Chin Hui defeated Amir/Husaini 15-3, 15-2; Bobby Sia/Ti Eng Hui
edged Hj Asmalee/Amalludin 1513, 9-15, 15-6; Beng Fui/Muktar awarded a
walkover win and Fazlan/Hj Rosh beat Khairuddin/Sumadi 10-15, 15-4,
15-4.
However, HSBC managed to take a game
back when Albert R/Md Khairul beat Ali/Steven 15-10, 17-14 to close
the gap to 7-2.
It was again up to the ladies to wrap
up the tie for Baiduri Bank when they clinched two crucial games to
take an unassailable 9-2 lead.
The wins were from Winnie/Veronica
and Catherine/ Noi after beating Justina/Mary 5-4, 15-7 and Man Peng/
Mimi_7-15, 15-3 and 15-3, respectively.
Credit had to be given to the undying
fighting spirit of HSBC as they took two more games in the ladies
doubles through Siti Salmiah/Rena Lee and Chea Hoon/Wee Shiow Liong.
They beat Belinda/Helen 15-7, 15-8 and Sharlene/ Ai Hui 15-2, 15-10
respectively.
In the mixed doubles, HSBC got a
point when Mimi/ Amalludin beat Hj Aldani/Ernie 15-7, 15-8 to restore
some pride for the team.
The remaining three matches were won
by Baiduri Bank. Chin Hui/Helen whipped Hj Md Noor/Soon Hui 15-0.152;
Bobby/Catherine defeated Md KhairulSiti Salmiah 158, 15-4 and Kok Shen/Lela
beat Man Peng/Sim See Hau 15-9, 17-16.
Meanwhile, QAF Brunei with two games
in hand will be eyeing the top spot when they meet PPAB today and RBA
on Monday. --
