Local Man Jailed For Taking Syabu

Begawan - A 33-year-old local man was sentenced to three years
and six months' imprisonment by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's
Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to five counts under the
Misuse of Drugs Act.
The defendant, Hush bin Tassan, who
is a second drug offender, was arrested on two separate occasions. He
was first arrested on November 14, 2002 in Jalan Tapak Kuda, Jalan
Berakas.
He was rearrested on January 8 this
year by Berakas police officers in Kampong Tanah Jambu in Jalan Muara,
said the Narcotics Control Bureau Prosecutor, Pg Othman Pg Hj Ali.
The court fined him $1,500 or in
default three months in jail for having in his possession a Class A
controlled drug, Methylamphe-tamine and he received a three-year
imprisonment sentence for consuming the same drug, known locally as 'syabu'.
He got a $1,000 tine or two months'
imprisonment for having in his possession several amount of a Class A
controlled drug, another three years in jail for consuming
Methylamphetamine and a fine of $800 or one month jail for having in
his possession an apparatus intended for consuming the drugs.
The defendant failed to pay the
fines. --
