Transportation Issues Up At APEC
Ministerial Meet

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Apec
Transportation Ministers concluded the 4th APEC Transportation
Ministerial Meeting yesterday in Bali, Indonesia.
The three-day meeting discussed
transportation issues in the areas of trade liberalisation, human
capacity development as well as safety and security, according to a
press release from the Ministry of Communications. .
The Brunei delegation was led by
Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria, Minister of Communications, who was
accompanied by five senior officials from the Ministry.
Meanwhile, Pg. Hj Mohd Yakub bin Pg
Hj Othamn, Director Of Transportation, led Brunei Darussalam's
delegation to the Apec Transport Officials Meeting held prior to and
after the Ministerial Meeting.
The press release stated that during
the Meeting, the APEC Transportation Ministers exchanged views and
considered options for continued progress towards achieving the goals
of free and open trade and investment in Asia-Pacific by 2010.
This is for developed economies and
2020 for developing economies by promoting the liberalisation of
transport services for the improvement and development of competitive
transportation services to promote greater economic integration.
The Meeting ended with the adoption
of Joint Ministerial Statement, which among others outlined the
priorities for the future.
The Ministers reaffirmed the
collective actions in APEC in implementing trade liberalisation and
facilitation, in tandem with economic and technical cooperation.
