Minister In Bali For APEC Exchange Transportation Views

Bandar Seri Begawan – Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria, the Minister of Communications has attended the Fourth APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting in Bali.

The meeting discussed transportation issues covdering trade liberalization, human capacity development as well as safety and security.

During the meeting, the APEC Transportation Ministers exchanged views and considered options for continued progress towards achieving the goals of free and open trade.

Investment in Asia-Pacific, by promoting the liberalization of transport services to improve competitiveness and encourage greater economic integration was also brought up.

The Meeting ended with the adoption of a Joint Ministerial Statement which identified priorities for the future.

The Ministers also stated priorities for all modes of transportation as being implementing the Bogor goals on free and open trade and investment and harnessing new technologies.

Best practices to facilitate travel and trade, implementing the goals of the APEC leaders’ statement on counter terrorism, and supporting the World Trade Organisation through trade facilitation measures were also focused.

The Ministers acknowledged the importance of industry in all efforts to improve transportation in the region and called upon industry and transportation officials to continue to work together in promoting economic prosperity and a secure, safe and integrated transportation system for all APEC countries. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
