Vanessa, Nicol And Rachael To Vie

Begawan - Second seed Vanessa Atkinson of the Netherlands took
51 minutes to beat New Zealand's Shelley Kitchen 9-4, 3-9, 9-5 and 9-5
in round one of the final round of the Brunei International Squash
Women's Open 2004 at Jerudong Park and Country Club yesterday.
In another game, England's Jenny
Tranfield ranked 8th in the competition easily defeated Annelize Naude
of the Netherlands 9-4, 9-1 and 9-2 in 29 minutes.
Malaysia's Nicol David, seeded 6th in
the tournament, took 27 minutes to defeat Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu
10-8, 9-I and 9-5 while third ranked player Natalie Grinham of
Australia started her game on the wrong path losing 3-9 in the first
set to England's Jenny Duncalf before eventually coming out on top
winning the next three sets 9-3, 9-1 and 9-5 which lasted 46 minutes.
Fourth seeded Linda Elriani of
England overcame her Egyptian opponent Omneya Abdel Kawy 10-8, 9-5 and
9-2 in 37 minutes and England's Rebecca Macree ranked 7th in the
competition took 51 minutes to beat Tania Bailey 9-4, 9-0, 1-9 and
9-6.
Top seeded Rachael Grinham of
Australia booked her ticket to the quarterfinals as she cruised her
way past Ireland's Madeline Perry 9-5, 9-1 and 9-2 in 25 minutes and
fifth seeded Fiona Geaves of England took 72 minutes to beat her
compatriot, Vick Botwright 5-9, 9-7, 9-4, 7-9 and 9-6.
In the quarterfinals today, Jenny
Tranfield will face Natalie Grinham followed by the match between
Rebecca Macree and Rachael Grinham.
The third game will feature the clash
between Linda Elriani and Fiona Geaves and the final match of the day
will see Vanessa Atkinson compete against Nicol David of Malaysia.
