6 Shops Sealed And 34 Others Told
To Clean Up Premises
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Six shops were closed while 34 other business
premises were issued with a letter ordering them to improve their
cleanliness in the first six months of this year.
Awg
Hj Saji B. Hj Mudin, Chairman of the Municipal Board, revealed this
when delivering a paper "The Role of Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal
Board in Ensuring Cleanliness and Food Safety" at the National
Convention on Health Promotion.
From January to June this year,
actions were taken against six premises in consultation with the
owners of the premises and six business premises were ordered to close
in a six-month period.
In comparison, 41 letters were issued
last year but there were no consultation actions and no closures. He
said that three Acts are enforced by the Board pertaining to
cleanliness and food safety - Chapter 57 of the Municipal Board Act,
Miscellaneous License Act and Food Safety Act 2000.
Hj
Saji said the inspection of the business premises was made based on
four criteria, namely, pre-opening inspection, routine inspection,
which is normally done at least twice a month, renewing business
licence and when a complaint is lodged against the business premises.
Monitoring is made at least twice a
month. Failure to abide by the rules and regulations on cleanliness
and health would result in the temporary closure of the premises until
the premise achieves 70 percent approval and passing rate.
He also outlined the cooperation of
the Ministry of Health in cleanliness inspection techniques and safety
aspects as a point of reference before any outlet is approved for
business as well as in conducting joint inspections.
Hj
Saji also outlined the vision to turn Bandar Seri Begawan into a
developed city on par with other cities in the AsiaPacific region in
2010. --
