Tutong Needs More School Buses So
Franchise Issued

Tutong
– The number of students going to schools using government
sponsored transportation is on the rise and more buses are needed.
The involvement of more local
companies and cooperatives in providing buses for the Transport
Sponsorship Scheme are vital to overcome this problem.
The scheme provides transportation to
Government schools for students living eight kilometres or more from
their school.
It was first introduced in 1994
especially for secondary and colleges students.
In the Tutong District alone, the
number of students using the service this year increased to more than
600.
In all, five secondary schools in the
district have been provided with school buses by the Ministry of
Education.
More than 30 companies or
cooperatives are currently conducting school bus service in the
district.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam
Motor Transport Licence Board has issue a franchise permit for school
bus services in the Tutong District.
The bus to be rented to the Ministry
of Education must be of 14, 15 and 22 seat capacity.
The offer is open to companies or
cooperatives. Among the conditions, the companies or cooperatives must
ensure the safety and comfort of the students and other road users by
adhering to the rules and regulations.
These include picking up and dropping
off students only at appropriate stops.
Application forms for the service
must be submitted to the Secretariat of the Brunei Darussalam Motor
Transport Licensing Board of the Land Transport Headquarters in the
capital by 12pm on August 18. --
