To Brunei
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A total of seven officers from Labuan, Malaysia
representing top-level officials of Labuan Corporation are currently
in the Sultanate for a goodwill visit and to improve cooperation with
a relevant agency towards making the two countries potential tourist
attraction.
The group was led by Dato' Hj Suhaili
bin Hj Abd Rahman, Labuan Member of Parliament and Chairman of Labuan
Corporation.
They visited the Malaysian High
Commission in Brunei Darussalam, the Department of Brunei Tourism and
the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
The visitors, who arrived on Monday,
are also here to extend their invitation to the people of Brunei to
visit the island during the Labuan Weekend Carnival, which is
scheduled to take place from August 7 to 8 and August 21 to 22.
"Booths selling a myriad of products
can be found along Jalan OKK Awang Besar, which will be closed on both
dates to accommodate the carnival," said Malai Hashim Malai Hassan, an
officer of the Labuan Corporation.
"Bruneians are invited to the
carnival where a variety of items and products will be on sale," he
added. "The carnival would commence at 6.30 am and close at 10 pm."
He added that the Labuan delegation
and Brunei Tourism also discussed about the two prospective events in
Labuan International Sea Challenge (LISC) 2005 that may need the
participation of Brunei.
"The two events are the proposals for
Cross Sea Swimming competition and Jetski Racing that would be flagged
off in Brunei and end in Labuan," he said.
The Cross Sea Swimming competition
was suggested by Sheikh Jamaludin Sheikh Mohamad, Director General of
Brunei Tourism, to Malai Hashim, the concerned Labuan Corporation
officer, when the latter visited the department. --
