Dale Carnegie Business Course Opens
By Laila Rahman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The world is experiencing a shortage of talents and to remain competitive, organisations must devise new ways as well as approaches to scout, build, retain and develop talents.

This was said by Pg Harun Pg Hj Allauddin, the Acting Director of Asean-EC Management Centre, in his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of a three-day programme on the Dale Carnegie course, "Strictly Business," which started yesterday at its Sukma Indera Hall in Gadong.

The programme is expected to see the attendance of 28 senior officers from government departments as well as executives and managers from various agencies or corporations, who seek to add more value to their respective organisations by maximising their performance and become strong leaders.

Present to conduct the course was Mr. Geoff Andrew, Director of Training for NB Associates, Malaysia.

A long-term resident of Kuala Lumpur, Geoff is a professional speaker and trainer originally from the UK.

He has been a senior manager for over 25 years in both the public and private sectors of the UK, US, Singapore and Malaysia. He has been a speaker at conferences and seminars in 15 countries and, on a voluntary level, is active in the Toastmasters organisations.

Dale Carnegie Inc is a US-based company that has trained and certified 2,700 trainers in 70 countries worldwide to run courses for 4.5 million people over the last 90 years since its creation by Dale Carnegie.

Among the topics that would be covered include creating a vision, increasing self-confidence, being more persuasive, developing flexibility, inspiring others, memory techniques, recognising achievement, realising the power of recognition, demonstrating leadership and renewing a vision for the future.

Pg Harun said, "The three-day course will help you master the capabilities demanded in today's tough business environment."

He concluded by mentioning the upcoming HRD Convention and Exhibition scheduled for October 2004 at the ICC. The theme will be "HR-Challenges and Opportunities in the New Economy."

Overall, the course aims to build greater self-confidence, strengthen people skills, and enhance communication, develop leadership as well as control worry and stress. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
