Brunei’s ICT Geared Towards Asean Integration
By Dk Suria Rina PHA

Bandar Seri Begawan - Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the priority areas of the IAI Work Plan for CLMV countries and Brunei is one of the six member countries of Asean contributing towards the achievement of the objective for Asean integration.

Towards achieving this goal, a training programme on "Managing With Information Technology", the first ever jointly organised by the Brunei Management Service Department and the Institute of Civil Service, was held at the Civil Service Institute yesterday morning.

The 7-day programme is attended by 16 participants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam and is aimed to narrow the development gap between the old and new member countries of Asean.

It enables the participants to integrate the various elements offered by the computer software applications through the use of various templates provided and to develop an action plan through these computer applications.

Present to officiate the ceremony was Dr Azaharaini Hj Mohd Jamil, Director of the Civil Service Institute at the Prime Minister's Office.

In his welcoming remarks, the director stated that the IT programme is designed for managers who have no or little skills in the use of computers and the Internet.

Due to the rapid changes in ICT, he told the participants that what they have learnt today may no longer be valid in 2 or 3 years' time.

Therefore he hopes the progamme is adequate in providing them with the necessary foundation to facilitate further learning in IT.

He added that it is their responsibility to keep themselves abreast with the latest development in ICT through continuous learning in the related areas.

This is important to ensure that they remain effective in an environment of fast changing technology, which affects the skill profiles of many jobs including the way they manage their organisations.

The director also hopes that all the participants will provide inputs to the development of the course through feedbacks and comments on the course contents and delivery which are relevant to the needs of their organisations so that the course can be modified for future participants. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
