Car Sold For $65 Leads To Arrest Of Car Thefts
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two suspects, who are allegedly behind several car thefts in the country, have been arrested by the police after one of the stolen cars was identified by its owner at a recycling yard to which the suspects had reportedly sold it for $65.

The Royal Brunei Police Force's Housebreaking and Car Theft Investigation Unit arrested the two suspects, a 26-year-old Malaysian and a local also in his 20s, after a hot car chase.

The police said, on July 25 a police officer from the said unit was allegedly hurt by the local when he tried to arrest the Malaysian suspect when they `bumped' into each other at the Kilanas Filling Station.

The suspects managed to escape but were given a chase and arrested.

Investigations conducted by the police led to the recovery of the car allegedly stolen by the suspects.

The car was found at Matusin Recycling Industry Company where workers there claimed that the car was sold for B$65 only.

The owner of the car, who wished to remain anonymous, identified the car, a white Toyota Corolla with an altered licence plate bearing the number BJ 6855.

The owner told the Bulletin that he found his car missing on June 16 when he was about to go to work. He had parked the vehicle at the Kg Tamoi car park area.

The owner said his car bears the number BH6016 but identified by its corroded underside, which needed repairs.

The police are currently conducting further investigations on the suspects, who are currently in remand at the BSB Central Police Station and will be brought to the Bandar Magistrates' Court. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
