Battle of the Bands this Friday
night
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

May to appear as guest band at the
Battle of The Band this Friday night.
Eight local bands will show off their
musical prowess in the Battle of the Bands Competition scheduled to
take place this Friday night at the JPCC Amphitheatre, Jerudong.
Organised
by JPCC and La SutraZ Ent in conjunction with His Majesty's 58th
birthday celebration, the competition will see the bands vie to be
crowned the country's top group this year.
The winning band will walk away with
prizes worth $10,000, similar to the ones offered at last year's
event, thanks to the sponsors of the Battle of the Bands.
After surviving the earlier rounds
that saw some 17 other bands bow out in tears, the eight bands - "D"
Madley, Cryptic, Magician, Rampage, D-Hask, Guest-Apo, Pyogenesis and
Black Pepper - now need to win over the judges on Friday night. The
groups will perform two songs each on Friday night.
Tickets to the final priced at $15
each can be purchased at the entrance of the JPCC Amphitheatre.
The event, sponsored by DST Group,
The Empire & Country Club, Aifa, Guan Hock Lee and Royal Brunei, will
also accept votes from the public via SMS to 8885555.
Meanwhile, a Malaysian rock group May
will perform as the guest band at the competition. Man, Mus, Abu and
Yus formed the band in May 1986 and it was a winner of the Champions
of Rock Malaysia in 1986.
May, who will be performing for the
first time in Brunei Darussalam, has produced 11 albums since 1986.
Considered as one of the biggest rock
groups and in the same league as Malaysia's Wings and Search, May has
managed to stay famous even at a time when rock music fans are
declining in numbers.
May fans in Brunei Darussalam will
not want to miss out on seeing their favourite rock group performing
at the JPCC Amphitheatre, Jerudong this Friday night, albeit as the
guest band of the Battle of the Bands.
