Former Minister's Case Adjourned

Begawan - The case against Pengiran Indera Wijaya Pengiran Dr
Hj Ismail, former Development Minister of Brunei, who is facing 10
corruption charges and seven charges under the Penal Code, has been
adjourned to October 23 this year.
The former minister yesterday
appeared at the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court with his
alleged correspondent, Wong Tim Kai, Managing Director of Ted Sdn Bhd.
Pg Dr Hj Ismail was represented by
counsels Mr Ahmad Basuni and Mr Roy of Abrahams, Davidson & Co
Advocates and Solicitors, while Wong was represented by Mr Rudi Lee
and assisted by Mr Paul Foo from Fathan, Rudi Lee and Associates,
Advocates and Solicitors.
Wong is facing 10 charges under the
Prevention of Corruption Act (Cap 131) for having given and agreed to
give gratification to Pengiran Dr Hj Ismail in relation to the
corresponding charges made against him and seven charges under the
Penal Code.
No pleas were taken from both
defendants yesterday.
Both could be jailed up to seven
years if convicted and fined S30, 000.
Released on $200,000 court bail each
or two local sureties, they both got their passports back. --
