School visit to Dept of Scientific Services

Touring one of various research labs.

A group of Fifth Form students from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab recently made an educational visit to the Department of Scientific Services.

Upon arrival, they were briefed on the organisational structure. Its objectives of providing quality scientific support services, investigations and advice to both governmental organisations as well as the private sector were also clearly outlined.

Soon after, the visitors toured various research laboratories, namely narcotics, arson, forensic DNA and DNA profiling, HIV screening, food safety, environment radiation, toxicology, documentation and microbiology.

In each, students were introduced to the functions of different advanced instruments used in the field of identification and analytical research.
