Ministry Hands Over National Flag
To AYSF Delegation

Begawan - A total of twenty Form Four and Lower Sixth Form
students from several government and non-government schools in Brunei
will be representing the sultanate at the 3rd APEC Youth Science
Festival (AYSF) in Beijing, China.
A flag handing over ceremony for the
participating group was held yesterday at the premises of the Ministry
of Development.
Present as chief guest at the event
was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development (Technical
and Professional), Awg Hj Mohd Jumin Hj Marsal, on behalf of the
Minister of Development.
The Brunei delegates will be
accompanied by officials comprising several teachers from secondary
schools and colleges as well as an officer from the Ministry of
Development, headed by Nor Erawadi Hj Ibrahim, an officer from STEP
Centre, Ministry of Education.

Hj Jumin made a brief note and offered a few words of advice to the
participating students shortly before handing over the national flag
to the head of the delegation. The 3rd AYSF will be held August 1-8,
2004.
The chief guest and other guests
which included parents of the participating students also viewed a
showcase of the projects by the participating students displayed at
the venue.
Concluding yesterday's event was a
cultural performance by the participants themselves.
AYSF
was first hosted by Seoul, South Korea in 1998 followed by Singapore
in 2000.
This year's event in Beijing carries
the theme "Science, Youth and Future", with an estimated participation
of 500 people including teachers. --
