NCB Nabs Two Civil Servants In Syabu Raid

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two government servants were among 21 people arrested in three separate raids conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers recently.

The largest seizure of drugs came on July 6 when the Bureau officers confiscated a class “A” drug, Syabu, weighing 71.2 grammes at a house in Kg. Mulaut. Three locals, a woman, and two men aged between 21 and 37 were arrested during the raid. Also found were instruments to weigh the drugs.

Possessing more than 50 grammes of Syabu carries the death penalty.

In a second raid, two government servants and a woman were arrested when officers stormed a room in a service apartment in Jalan Tutong on July 7.

The three locals are aged between 28 and 38. Also found were several plastic packets, believed to contain Syabu.

Meanwhile, in another operation carried out on July 13 between 5am and 12 midnight, the Bureau detained 15 people suspected to be involved in the misuse of drugs.

The Bureau detained 12 men and three women aged between 17 and 39. Those detained included 13 locals, a permanent resident and a Malaysian.

A total of 35 officers from the NCB were involved in the operation and were led by Tuan Hj Roslan B. Hj Suhaili, Assistant Director for Implementation and Intelligence Branch.

The officers also confiscated instruments used in the misuse of drugs.

During the festive season to mark the 58th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, the Narcotics Control Bureau said it will carry out preventive measures against the misuse of drugs by conducting operations in all the four districts.

The Narcotics Control Bureau once again advised the public that those involved in drug related activities could be punished and warned that possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking in Brunei carries the death penalty.
