Seminar On Mosque Among Events For Royal Birthday Celebration

Bandar Seri Begawan - A seminar on mosque institution will be one of the major events to be held in conjunction with His Majesty's 58th birthday celebration.

Pengiran Dato Haji Abdul Hamid, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and co-chairman of the steering committee of the seminar, said that the seminar carries the theme 'Mosque as a Platform for the monarch's leadership'.

Speaking at the media conference on the seminar, Pengiran Dato Hj Abdul Hamid said 14 working papers will be tabled during the seminar by intellectuals, professionals and mosque officials from ASEAN member countries, including Brunei.

The seminar will discuss the role of mosques institution in developing the country in the context of Brunei Darussalam and how mosques institution can become a platform to the Brunei monarch’s leadership.

Asked about the theme of the seminar, Pengiran Dato Haji Abdul Hamid responded that the concept has some similarity with the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) concept since it has existed during the reign of Brunei's early rulers.

From generation to generation, mosque has been used by earlier monarchs as venue to expand knowledge and a place of gathering for the community.

The three-day seminar to be held at the International Convention Centre will be open to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Meanwhile, a week-long exhibition will be held at the same venue.

The exhibition, which started on the 19th of this month, will feature various experience, artefacts and other products related to mosques.

Manufacturers, distributors and businesses or any other services, which are related to mosques' affairs, are welcome to participate in the exhibition. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
