Director Lauds Drawing Contest Organisers

Bandar Seri Begawan - A senior government officer congratulated organisers of the two-day grand colouring and drawing competition which opened yesterday at The Mall in Gadong for their efforts in nurturing new talents in the arts.

Hj Sumadi Sukaimi, Acting Director of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Brunei, said at yesterday's opening ceremony that his department was greatly honoured for being able to offer their cooperation towards fostering and development of the arts in the country.

In his capacity as the guest of honour, he said that such a contest is necessary to uncover hidden talents in kids who may well rise to become huge international artists.

He also congratulated the young entrepreneurs, Bizglobe Management, saying that new, fresh and energetic entrepreneurs were much needed by the nation for progress and economic development.

Hj Sumadi then launched the roadshow of Mekar Magazine, calling DBP publications like it as well as Bahana and Juara of possessing local contents with 6 global approach.

During this event, male and female students from the PDS School showcased some entertaining dance routines.

More than 700 children from the age of four to eight participated in Categories A and B of the colouring contest yesterday.

DBP also organised Berbalas Pantun and Quiz competitions with a special appearance from local comedian Awg Kudil.

Philips, one of the exclusive sponsors, organised a demonstration on the benefit of their products, while lucky parents of the participating children won high-end value-added goods such as a food processor, chopper blender, 1800-watt vacuum cleaner from Italy, in the draw and quiz.

Another sponsor, MegaBorneo Marketing Services, offered prizes such as return tickets to Bangkok, a five-star hotel accommodation in Sabah and Sarawak, including a three-night stay at Hyatt Regency in Kota Kinabalu for two people with breakfast inclusive, to its lucky draw and quiz winners.

Meanwhile, Kingston Beverage and Creamery Sdn Bhd organised games like the fastest Pepsi drinker, Pepsi challenge and an ice-cream eating competition. Another sponsor, The Mall itself, handed out exciting prizes for a lucky draw and quiz in which questions on the.venue were posed.

Games and a quiz were also provided by SKF Florists and Quadravision Balloons while Utama Grand announced the numbers for lucky shoppers at its establishment. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
