RBA Sacks Drunken Pilot Of
Brunei-Bound Flight
By M K Anwar
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Royal Brunei Airlines pilot who was suspended
after a breathalyser test at the Heathrow Airport last week had his
contract terminated by the airline, the Bulletin learnt yesterday.
The pilot, Charles Nicholls, 53, a
British national, was due to pilot a plane from the Heathrow Airport
to Brunei last Thursday, when he was stopped by police and asked to
take a breath test.
He was taken off the plane by the
airport police after security staff became concerned and suspicious
with the way the pilot was "acting".
He was asked to undergo a
breathalyser test at the Heathrow Police Station and later released on
police bail. The pilot was also asked to return in mid-August pending
further inquiries.
The Brunei-bound flight eventually
took off two hours late with a substitute pilot.
RBA
when contacted yesterday told the Bulletin that an inquiry took place
yesterday by its top management and confirmed that "actions" had been
taken on the pilot. --
