Brunei Makes Move Towards Easier
Regional Flights

Bandar Seri
Begawan – Brunei, Singapore and Thailand are to sign a
multilateral Agreement on Passenger Air Services in August this year
which will enable freer flights between Asean countries.
The three countries currently held a
two-day Senior Officials Preparatory Meeting to discuss and finalise
the text of the agreement.

Dato Awang Haji Abdullah the Ministry of Communications Permanent
Secretary chaired the meeting.
The Passenger Air Services
Multilateral Agreement would have the flexibility of allowing
designated airlines of the participating countries to provide
passengers service in both directions. It will enable unlimited third
and fourth freedom traffic rights on open-route schedule.
Brunei, Singapore and Thailand had
earlier sealed the multilateral Agreement on The Full Liberalisations
of All Cargo Air Services. That would allow designated airlines of
participating countries to provide all cargo air services in either or
both directions from points in the territory of the country granting
the right via any intermediate point to point in another country and
beyond.
Pengiran
Haji Mohammad Yakub bin Pengiran Haji Othman, the Director of
Transportation, Ministry Of Communications said that the Pact on Cargo
Air Services Full Liberalisations has been signed among the three
countries.
Upon linking the multilateral
agreement, the three countries would establish a liberalised passenger
and cargo air services.
It will use the '2+X' approach
framework encouraging other ASEAN members to join in later.
