Grass cutting woes
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
A man who allegedly lost his
grass-cutting machine several days ago to thieves put the blame on
grass cutters who do not like his idea of cutting his own grass to
save money.
He said it would cost him a fortune
if he leaves it to the grass cutters to trim the lawn in the large
compound at his house in Kg Selayon, Sengkurong. So when he moved in
to the new house several months ago, he bought a lawn mower that cost
him about $300.
He said at least ten grass cutters
had come knocking on his house offering to cut the grass on a monthly
basis.
"I told them I cut my own grass and
many of them left but not before telling me that it would be better to
let them cut the grass as they are experts in their own field.
"One of them insisted on seeing my
lawn mower and so I showed him where I kept it, which was in a
secluded part of my garage covered with cloth and hidden beneath a
chair.
"A few days after he came I lost the
lawn mower and nothing else in the garage like my tool box was stolen.
"So I made a police report and stated
that I suspect the thief to be a grass cutter who did not want me to
cut the grass in my compound," he said.
He said it would cost him $30 to $50
a month if he leaves it to a grass cutter to trim the lawn. "I could
have recovered the cost of the machine within 6 to 10 months if I cut
the grass myself."
