Seruji Hj Setia Wins In Panaga Open Golf Championship

Bandar Seri Begawan - Seruji Hj Setia, the 8th time champion of the Panaga Amateur Open Golf Championship, had once again proven and strengthened his position as Brunei Number I after recording a magnificent victory during the 39th Panaga Amateur Open Golf Championship over the weekend.

Carding a total of 215 (70, 73, 72) Seruji had denied his closest challenger, Kelana Ibrahim (78, 74, 70) of Kelab Golf Miri (KGM), the chance of catching up even after carding an even par on the final day.

Third place went to Pg Adam Pg Atan with a total of 227 (76, 77, 74) followed by Lee Kah Ching with a total of 229 (80, 76, 73) and Abd Kadir Abd Ghani with a total of 234 (81, 81, 72).

As for the Panaga local heroes, the 3day scores weren't good enough to challenge the top spot. The nearest was Danny Tan 237 (80, 80, 77), Brahim Hj Md Yassin 238 (80, 77, 81) and Yong Yin Chong (75, 85, 79) who only managed the 10th, 11th, and 12th position, respectively.

In the ladies category, the top spot was well competed by three golfers of which two of them are young and talented players, Evelyn Ho of Panaga Golf Club (PGC), Michelle Ting of KGM and an experienced challenger and also last year's champion Priscilla Wong of PGC.

Michelle Ting was the champion carding 89, 82, 86 with a total score of 257. In second place was Priscilla with 258 (90, 84, 84) followed by Liesbeth VD Dool carding 86, 90, and 96 for a total of 272.

Evelyn had shown her maturity in her game after carding 85, 85 on the first two days but due to some infringement she was ruled out of the championship. Other PGC ladies challengers were Pg Anak Hjh Noorashikin and Irma Groeneweg.

The competition attracted 190 players from Brunei and Malaysia.
