Labour Probes Unpaid Salary Of
Indonesian Worker
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A foreign female employee of a restaurant in Gadong
was seen crying out aloud at the establishment last Saturday morning
for non-payment of salary.
The Indonesian worker said she has
not been paid her salary for the past 13 months.
Concerned and sympathetic diners at
the restaurant called up the enforcement section of the Labour
Department to report the incident.
Labour
officials came to investigate the case.
A source told that Bulletin part of
the salary of the Indonesian worker had allegedly been deducted for
the past 13 months to pay for the loan taken by her ex-husband, a
former employee of the restaurant.
However, the two had been divorced
since 2001. The woman complained she should not have been made
responsible for the loan taken by her ex-husband, who is no longer
working there.
"Even if we were not divorced there
is no valid reason that I should be responsible for the payments of
his loan.
"I was not a guarantor to the loan
and furthermore I have been divorced from him for the past three
years," she said.
The Labour Department is still
investigating the case. --
