LiveWIRE Business Awards
Competition Launched
By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Livewire Awards 2004, an annual business awards
competition for young people who venture and succeed in a business
activity, was launched yesterday.
Being held for the fourth time,
Livewire appreciates the level of participation of the educational
institution in the awards and in training activities, said Hj
MohdAlipah HjAwg Murah¸ Livewire Programme Director.
Livewire is glad to be of service in
providing an avenue of activities for young people. Those who are
still studying form a big percentage of LiveWIRE clients. This helps
the Ministry of Education in its own effort to introduce
entrepreneurship among the schooling population, he said.
"There are plenty of rooms in which
our two organisations can work together, and this can only mean one
thing- greater benefit for the young people of Brunei Darussalam,"
said Hj Mohd Alipah.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry
of Education, Hj Sheikh Adnan Sheikh Muhammad was the chief guest who
officially launched the.LiveWIRE Awards 2004 and witnessed the Joint
Sponsorship Agreement. He said, this signifies another milestone in
the relationship between MoE and Livewire Brunei.
Livewire was first held in 2001,
fully funded by BSP. In the following year, HSBC became the joint
sponsor of the Livewire Awards. The signing of the Joint Sponsorship
Agreement, which coincides with the launching event, displays the
bank's strong support for Livewire.
The programme is an excellent
opportunity for young people to participate in an activity that will
test their ability, adaptability and skills. It promotes themselves
and their businesses/business ideas. They get a chance to gain
recognition and at the same time win attractive prizes.
It is divided into the Business
Start-up and the Business Plan competitions. The Business Start-up is
for people already running a business.
The Business Plan category has been
divided into six sub-categories instead of four like last year. Form
4-5 students this year need not compete with form six students. They
are now in different sub-categories.
Technical/vocational college students
this year do not need to compete with UBD and ITB students as last
year. They now fall under their own sub-categories.
The last two sub-categories are the
LiveWIRE course participants and an Open sub-category.
This new format is hoped to create
greater interest and involvement from schools and educational
institutions this year.
Closing date for submission is
October 29. Prize presentation ceremony is set for December.
This is an opportunity for university
graduates and unemployed young people to prove their capabilities.
Participants may get details and
entry forms from Livewire Brunei at PGGMB Building in the capital or
call 2220 964 or any HSBC branches.
Details of the competition open to
Brunei citizens only, can also be found at www.livewire-brunei.com and
