13 Foreign Workers Nabbed In KB
Surprise Raid
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Thirteen foreign nationals from Thailand, Indonesia
and India were detained yesterday morning after failing to produce
documents of proof for their stay.
The arrest came following an ambush by the Kuala Belait Immigration Enforcement Section.
Meanwhile, another Indonesian was
issued with special pass instructing him to return to the Immigration
Office for further clarification of his documents.
The raid targeted three housing and
construction sites within Kuala Balai and Jalan Pandan Tujoh.
The raid, which started at about 9.30
am, was conducted by 10 Immigration officers led by Chief Immigration
Officer Awg Sulaiman bin Hj Hidup.
More than 50 foreign workers were
inspected during the said operation, which was conducted to eliminate
activities of misusing the Immigration Pass and other related
offences, which violates the Immigration and Passports Act.
The continuous operation by the
enforcement agency is also to control all activities relating to
illegal entry, overstaying and employment on a visit pass, running
away from employer and others.
In relation to that, the Immigration
Department once again wishes to remind all employers to comply with
rules and regulations set by them in the process of recruiting foreign
workers into the country.
It also urged employers to cooperate
with the said agency by preparing photocopy of vital documents to the
said workers, while they are carrying out work outside. --
