Over 600 Jobless Bruneians Seek
Help From Career Resource Centre
Bandar Seri
Begawan – Over 600 students and job seekers registered with the
Career Resource Centre, Brunei’s one-stop career centre, for career
opportunities in less than a year after it was set up.
The Ministry of Education established
the centre to provide career advice to students, school leavers,
college and university graduates and to make available any information
on tertiary education.
It will also help school leavers and
graduates to understand themselves better and assist them in looking
for jobs.
Among its objectives are to assist
job seekers in getting information regarding potential employers and
in equipping school leavers and graduates with job-seeking skill.
All information about these job
seekers is provided to potential employers to avoid mismatch.
This could minimise the unemployment
problem apart from establishing cooperation with the organisations
involved.
Several successful applicants
expressed their gratitude to the officers at the Career Resource
Centre for finding jobs for them.
Officers at the Career resource
Center urged job seekers, especially the youth, not to be choosy and
to take any job offered to them to gain valuable experience.
They also said that efforts by the
Career Resource Centre could help reduce the unemployment rate among
the youth in the country and help jobseekers find jobs.
Another successful applicant, Dayang
Pauziah binti Mazlan, said the advantages of the resource centre are
that it can help youth who are unemployed, including school leavers to
find jobs and reduce the level of unemployment in Brunei.
To youths who are seeking employment,
she suggested that they accept any offers from private firms because
nowadays, jobs are hard to find.
Dayang
Hadina binti Haidin, who is now a receptionist at the Grand City
Hotel, said youths who are unemployed should gain any work experience
as soon as they can, and this can reduce unemployment. “Any job can be
challenging,” she said.
Abdul Razak Arrifin bin Haji Zaini,
now a Bellboy at the Grand City Hotel, said youths searching for
employment should do their best to find jobs because nowadays, they
have to look for jobs and cannot wait for jobs to find them.
Education Counsellor at the IDP
Education Australia in Brunei, said the establishment of the Career
Resource Centre can help reduce unemployment in the country and create
job opportunities to school leavers as well as to certificate, diploma
and degree holders.
Dayang
Norhuraizah also advised youth not to be choosy in selecting jobs, but
to be careful in choosing one and be ready for any job offered.
The centre also works closely with
employers to provide potential employees that are most suited to the
jobs offered in terms of qualification and interest.
These employers both praised the
efforts of the Centre and said that the employees have been providing
good service. -- Courtesy
